Default Jets fire Mangini

Quote:
The New York Jets fired head coach Eric Mangini, one day after the team lost to the Miami Dolphins and failed to make the postseason. The decision was announced at a news conference by Jets owner Woody Johnson.

After defeating then-undefeated Tennessee in Week 12, the Jets were 8-3 and in first place in the AFC East. They lost four of their last five games after that to finish 9-7. Mangini was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets.

"We just felt that we could get a better fit moving forward," said Johnson, who added there is no timetable in the search for Mangini's replacement. The search will be led by Johnson and Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Johnson did no speculate on the future of Jets quarterback Brett Favre, who is scheduled to have an MRI Monday morning on his right shoulder.
I look for Favre to retire again as well.
